Shark Cage Diving

It`s been all about Cape Town for too long now - off the beaten track you`ll find the quiet fishing village of Gansbaai where shark diving off of Dyer island is some of the best in the world. Take a day out in the Cape and come face to face with a Carcharodon carcharias (If you dare)!

Tour Details

Marine Dynamics, a diving operation specializing in encounters with the Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias), is based in the fishing village of Gansbaai, Western Cape, South Africa. Six nautical miles away is Dyer Island, possibly the best place in the world to engage the Great White shark!

After a super early pick up from your accommodation it`s a 2 hour drive onto Gansbaai where breakfast is offered at the onsite restaurant before the boat is launched. Your dive is preceded by a brief introductory talk about the experience and what to look out for, before being fitted with comfortable inflatable life-jackets. Safety is of the utmost importance and Marine Dynamiks have extensive public liability insurance.

The crew usually launch around 9:00 am in the morning (note that launching times may vary due to tide and weather conditions), arriving at the anchoring spot in 20 to 25 minutes. The anchor is lowered, the cage goes into the water, a scent trail is made, and we settle down. Final preparations for the diving are made, and the next few hours are spent watching, diving and enjoying the day.

After spending time with the sharks, you`ll make your way with the group to Dyer Island, if possible. We do not go to the island every time as that depends on weather and sea conditions. At Dyer Island we can approach close enough to view African penguins, Cape cormorants and many other species. We also often spot giant petrels, Cape gannets, white chinned petrels and storm petrels.

Neighbouring Dyer Island is Geyser Rock, home to thousands of Cape Fur Seals. The stretch of water between the two islands is Shark Alley. We visit Shark Alley to view the seals. The colony is thriving and there is always lots of activity, especially around November time when the tiny pups are born.

After about 3 to 4 hours, depending on the day, we head back to land. Should you wish to return to shore earlier, a transfer can be arranged.

Travel with ISIC

Why do we insist on ISIC Cards?

Our objective solely being all the student to make most of their ISIC Discounts worldwide as an ISIC Holder.

All the special discounted airfares are normally negociated directly from the airlines, due to these reasons (as per the airline contract), a traveler will need one of the following three identification cards: International Student Identity Card (ISIC), International Youth Travel Card (IYTC), International Teacher Identity Card (ITIC)

If a client already holds any of the named valid cards, we will need the card type and number prior to issuing tickets. Travelers on student fares are required to carry a current, valid ISIC while traveling. Failure to produce a valid card may result in denied boarding.

If you are purchasing an eligibility card, you must verify that the passenger is eligible for the card. You will need to provide the passenger’s date of birth for all cards and the name of the school for ISIC and ITIC cards.

If fraudulent information is provided, you will be held responsible. You may be required to provide proof of eligibility in some cases, such as when the passenger is over the age of 34.
